Job Summary

The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Director, Strategy and Partnerships, the Information and Data Management Officer (“Officer”) is a collaborative, compelling, highly skilled subject matter expert and passionate change leader who is responsible for planning, implementing, promoting, and governing the University’s data and information management strategy to facilitate institutional data-driven decision making.

The Officer delivers strategic capabilities to the University focused on data governance and management, data quality, data and analytics platform, data proficiency and artificial intelligence. The capabilities include policies and practices (e.g. privacy, security, access, location, retention, and international standards); ownership and accountability (e.g. data governance and stewardship); descriptions and attributes such as metadata, Master Data Management (MDM), data catalogues, CRUD tables, classifications and dimensions; and architecture (conceptual, logical, and physical).

Overall, the Officer is responsible for implementing and running the data and information management strategy and governance functions, providing direct consultation to both the Director, Strategy and Partnerships and the Chief Information Officer, and for building awareness of and ensuring compliance with Queen’s data governance and procedures and the regulatory environment.

Committed to equity, diversity and inclusion principles, the Officer also leads efforts in other work streams, such as data proficiency, to provide enterprise-wide stakeholders with a special set of understandings and competencies so they can access, interrogate, and present business data in a meaningful way.

Job Description

About You:
You are an energetic, collaborative and empathetic leader who is passionate about the value and opportunity that data, cross-institutional data governance and data management excellence brings to our business and technology teams. You have an ability to easily explain data concepts and their practical implications across stakeholders from senior leaders to data analysts. You hold a degree in data management, IT, information or data science, computing science, computer engineering, or a related field, with expertise developing a data governance framework and establishing and expanding relevant processes, roles, standards, and metrics. With deep experience in strategy development and implementation, project management, and program analysis, you are comfortable preparing and delivering presentations, briefings, and information sessions to senior executives and a wide range of enterprise stakeholders. To the role, you bring knowledge of data governance practices, business and technological acumen related to data quality, storage, protection, and dissemination, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills. You are a strategic thinker and team player with experience collaborating at all levels within a large organization and thrive in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment. You are able to take theoretical concepts and apply them to a complex environment in a practical manner. Ideally you have a strong background in the unique opportunities and challenges found in the Higher Education sector. Experience with Microsoft Dataverse, PowerBI, Power Platform, Salesforce or Peoplesoft is an asset.
