The Faculty is committed to creating a supportive community within the law school that fosters a lifelong community for its students that continues long after graduation.Reporting to the Assistant Dean, JD Program, the Manager, Recruitment and Admissions provides leadership to the Admissions and Recruitment Team and is responsible for developing, administering, planning, implementing and evaluating strategies and processes for recruitment and admissions to the Queen’s Law JD program. The incumbent works with students, staff and faculty to create engagement opportunities within and outside of Queen’s Law to foster a sense of community for its current students. The incumbent oversees the strategic management and administration of recruitment and admissions processes to ensure integrity with Faculty and University policies, while also maintaining Queen’s Law’s competitive position as a program of choice for a diverse and talented study body. The incumbent plays an integral role in the Faculty’s strategic planning and works with the Faculty’s strategic goals to create and implement data collection instruments to measure the success of recruitment and admissions efforts as well reach enrolment and retention targets.This position will require the incumbent to travel domestically and internationally, and work non-traditional hours (some evenings/weekends). Job Description KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:• Develop and implement the strategic plan for Admissions and Recruitment, working closely with the Assistant Dean, JD Program, including an effective strategy for targeted recruitment efforts aimed at increasing both the academic competitiveness as well as the diversity of the student body.• Design and implement a strategic admissions review policy and practices, encompassing the Faculty’s holistic approach to admissions and its longstanding commitment to access and equity. • Develop and implement a research plan to assist with targeted annual marketing, communication and recruitment to meet admission, recruitment and enrolment objectives.• Develop and oversee initiatives and events for recruitment of undergraduate students to meet short and long-term recruitment targets, including recruitment of under-represented equity-seeking groups and international students.• Represent the Faculty at recruitment events as well as to the various professional organizations of recruitment and admissions personnel at other Canadian and international law schools. Plan, design and lead Welcome Day events for prospective students.• Provide leadership and strategic direction on communications and information presentations for recruitment purposes. • Supervise the creative use of social media for outreach to prospective and admitted students, including strategic on-boarding communications to retain admitted students from point of admission through the start of the academic year• Liaise with the Director of Marketing on marketing strategy. Provide input on content of recruitment-related publications.• Liaise with the Faculty’s Alumni Relations to explore, develop and enhance opportunities for alumni mentoring and engagement in recruitment activities.• Develop and implement assessment tools to aid in the evaluation of recruitment and marketing strategies. • Manage and analyze the admission file/data review processes and evaluation of applications. Oversee the preparation of statistical reports, including a demographic survey of current students, identifying and recommending areas of opportunity and recommending alternatives and/or initiatives for change. • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of an electronic document management system for admissions data and related student documents.• Liaise with the Office of the University Registrar and seek opportunities for collaboration on matters relating to recruitment and admissions.• Serve as primary representative of the Faculty for prospective students regarding admissions and corresponds to inquiries via email, telephone, social media, and in person.• Supervise staffing of recruitment fairs and serve as Faculty of Law representative on information panels pertaining to admissions.• Plan, prioritize and manage the work of employees, providing strategic and tactical advice, guidance and coaching. Identify the need for staff resources, participate on staffing committees, and make effective recommendations regarding employee selection.• Manage performance by establishing performance standards, reviewing and evaluating performance and conducting formal performance reviews on an ongoing basis.• Assess staff training and development needs and ensure that employees receive training required to improve and sustain successful performance.• Review assignments and provide feedback on work to employees and student volunteers.• Investigate, address and resolve employee/labour relations issues, including disciplinary matters. Make decisions or effective recommendations on matters involving possible discipline, discharge and probationary termination.• Primary staff contact for Student Orientation for all incoming students. Design new student induction program, make strategic decisions about student onboarding and oversee all distributed communication and marketing material to new students. Oversee the Student Ambassador program.• Develop strategic plan for community outreach, working in consultation with the Assistant Dean, JD Program, setting a schedule for supported events and establishing contacts with the local community and outside agencies for ongoing partnerships.• In cooperation with the Faculty’s Director of the Career Development Office and Alumni Relations, identify and engage recent graduates as potential mentors for recruitment as well as outreach efforts.• Develop and implement a strategic plan for engaging recent alumni through outreach events with both current and prospective students.• Liaise with Faculty’s Alumni Relations to explore, develop and enhance opportunities for student engagement through community-wide outreach events designed to bring together local alumni, stakeholders and students.• Undertake other duties as assigned.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:• University degree in a related field. A degree related to business, marketing, or education is considered an asset.• Several years of recruitment and admissions-related experience in a post-secondary setting.• Knowledge of the Faculty of Law recruitment and admissions policies and procedures is considered an asset.• Experience in a leadership role. • Three to five years of experience with developing proposals, project plans, including measurement criteria. • Experience with event planning, coordination and delivery.• Demonstrated experience with statistical research design, the conduct of statistical research and writing of research reports.• Excellent knowledge of survey methodology, technology, data analysis, and reporting survey results.• Familiarity with admissions policies and procedures in the context of legal education would be an asset.• Knowledge of the legal profession and of legal education would be an asset.• Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.SPECIAL SKILLS:• Strong software skills, especially MS Office (ACCESS, EXCEL and WORD); demonstrated expertise in database management, queries, reporting and analysis; experience with maintenance of web applications and interfaces. Experience with the PeopleSoft system is an asset.• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, strong public speaking skills. • Excellent interpersonal skills.
